This article contains spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2, now on sale from Marvel Comics.

Scorpion gets a lethal set of powered-up armor from a mysterious benefactor in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2, and immediately uses it to go on the offensive against Brooklyn's webslinger.

"Trial By Spider, Part Two" sees Miles teaming up with Misty Knight to investigate a series of data center robberies. The pair briefly spot a gang of would-be thieves but, upon breaking into a building to stop them, they find one of the perpetrators stabbed to death. Scorpion immediately reveals himself, boasting a powered-up suit somewhat reminiscent of the character's appearances in Marvel's now-defunct Ultimate Universe.

An upgraded Scorpion fights Spider-Man and Misty Knight

"I should thank you before I kill ya; 'cause of you, I was able to get these nice, new upgrades, free of charge," Scorpion yells as he goes on the offensive, referencing a previous fight with Miles from Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1. "Little birdie said all I had to do was put you in the dirt! Misty Knight being here is just a bonus!"

Scorpion's Mysterious Benefactor

Scorpion doesn't go so far as to reveal who his "little birdie" is, but the previous issue of the series also showed the Bumbler -- normally a relatively harmless supervillain wannabe -- boasting unusually powerful gear. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 also ends with Starling, Miles' often-frustrated beau, facing down an attacker wearing high-tech armor with a host of drones at her side.

The issue heavily hints that this attacker, who also could wind up being the person outfitting Spidey's villains with upgrades, is Raneem, a young woman who Miles saved in the first issue. Raneem appears to be a respected member of her community who feeds the homeless and harbors nothing but goodwill toward those around her -- with the exception of Miles, who she bears a personal grudge against for unknown reasons. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 ended with her staring at a fancy computer screen filled with images of Miles and his closest connections, indicating that Raneem is well-versed in technology and isn't afraid to use it to hurt Spider-Man on a personal level.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 is written by Cody Ziglar, illustrated by Federico Vicentini, colored by Bryan Valenza and lettered by VC's Cory Petit. The issue boasts covers by Dike Ruan, Alejandro Sanchez, Stephanie Hans, Vicentini, Nicoletta Balderi and Jonboy Meyers. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 is on sale now from Marvel.
