Did he live? Did he die? The fate of Tony Stark remains a mystery, as the few glimpses we've seen of the post-"Civil War II" Marvel Universe indicate that at the very least he's no longer in the public eye. Of course, that's only fueled speculation that the man who was Iron Man is no longer among the living. The debut of the cover for Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez's "Civil War II" #8, the event's final issue, won't offer any actual answers, though the provocative image will surely fuel more conversation among readers.
The cover, released via IGN and illustrated by series cover artist Marko Djurdjevic, features Stark's Iron Man helmet, empty and laying on the rain-covered ground. The helmet is cracked, dented and sparking, and suffers from what appears to be multiple points of impact from a variety of items.
"There are many people who look at that cover and read whatever they want to read into it no matter what I say," Bendis told IGN. "I have decided to get very zen about the whole thing and let it unfold and let people see what they want to see."
Will the heroes of the Marvel Universe wield the power of ‘predictive justice’ to change the future or battle to protect tomorrow? The additional issue of ‘Civil War II’ will bring the explosive event to its powerful conclusion, but with an Inhuman at the center of the conflict with the ability to see what’s to come, has the future already been foretold or can it be changed?
"Civil War II" #8 arrives in stores December 28.
