After seven original films, everyone's favorite killer doll, Chucky, is heading to television.

Syfy and the USA Network released a brand-new featurette featuring Child's Play creator creator Don Mancini. In the video, Mancini teases what fans can expect from the forthcoming series, as well as what led to the move to the small screen. "I wanted to bring the series back to its Child's Play roots and involve teenagers," he said.

Mancini elaborated on his reasoning for focusing on teenagers in the television series. For him, the idea of using Chucky to tell a story about bullying and teenage life was ideal. "They have more complicated issues that they're dealing with, like bullying," he said. "With this first season of the TV series, we use Chucky as a metaphor for bullying. And I think, in a way, Chucky is the perfect bully because he comes, as he always has in our franchise, in the guise of being your best friend."

While the show will tackle important topics like bullying, Mancini also promises the show will make people scream and laugh, much like the other Chucky titles before it. However, he's also hopeful the show will cause people to laugh as it deals with the truths of growing up. "We explore a very sweet, teen, gay romance that I think people might be surprised at the depth of it, and I think it has a whiff of real life pain," he said. "Scenes from my own life replayed."

Mancini wrote all 8 episodes of the series for Syfy and USA, he also served as the director on the pilot episode. For Mancini, this is a return to the franchise he helped to create as he co-wrote the original Child's Play movie. He would then go on to write the next six films set within the franchise. Along with the story serving as a return to form for Mancini, Chucky will also bring back Brad Dourif to voice the titular character.

Chucky is slated to premiere Tuesday, Oct. 12 on USA and Syfy.
