Disney’s string of live-action features based on animated classics continues this weekend with the release of director Marc Forster's Christopher Robin. Starring Ewan McGregor and Hayley Atwell, this lovingly crafted tale of an adult Christopher Robin reuniting with Winnie-the-Pooh and friends from the Hundred Acre Wood is full of heart, with seamlessly integrated CG. As audiences probably expect, a reverence for the source material is apparent from the first frame, and there are plenty of nods to the books by author A. A. Milne and illustrator E.H. Shepard, as well as Disney's assorted animated Pooh films.

However, what you might not expect is the inclusion of a mid-credits scene.

While the stingers in the middle of, or following, the credits have become almost mandatory for comic book and action movie franchises, Disney tends to set trends rather than follow them. The studio's recent run of live-action remakes like The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast have been hugely successful without that added touch that some directors, like Logan's James Mangold, consider little more than a gimmick. If anything, Disney may include a short film before the feature, especially in the case of Pixar movies.

Regardless, once the credits have scrolled, this modern telling of Winnie-the-Pooh gives us a treat ... and we're not only talking a few seconds, either. You might get antsy while everyone else is shuffling off toward the exits, but we promise there is something you won’t want to miss. Just stay seated.

Post- and mid-credits scenes frequently set up sequel, or else are just a humorous callback to something mentioned early in the film. Many times they include clever Easter eggs that delight diehard fans. We won’t spoil the extra scene here, but we will mention that it includes a cool nod to Disney's animated Winnie-the-Pooh films of yesteryear.

Directed by Marc Forster, Christopher Robin stars Ewan McGregor as the title character and Hayley Atwell as his wife Evelyn Robin, with Bronte Carmichael as their daughter Madeline Robin, and Mark Gatiss as Christopher's employer Giles Winslow Jr., along with the voices of Jim Cummings as Pooh and Tigger, Nick Mohammed as Piglet, Brad Garrett as Eeyore, Toby Jones as Owl, Sophie Okonedo as Kanga, and Peter Capaldi as Rabbit. The film opens Friday nationwide.
