Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh are in talks to join "Dunkirk," the World War II action thriller written and directed by Christopher Nolan.

The Warner Bros. film, set during the legendary 1940 evacuation of Allied soldiers from Dunkirk, France, will be headed by yet-to-be-cast unknowns. According to the studio, production will begin in May using a combination of of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large- format film. It's targeted for release on July 21, 2017.

The announcement was made today following French newspaper reports that Nolan and his brother Jonathan Nolan had been scouting locations in Dunkirk for a World War II film.
