The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's new film Tenet has finally arrived online, and it asks more questions than it answers.

The action-packed preview opens with a mission that sends John David Washington's as-yet unnamed lead character up the side of a skyscraper wearing nothing but a T-shirt, khakis, a gun and some climbing gear. Then, it cuts to a railyard, where he finds himself restrained and at the mercy of a man holding a bullet.

"You chose to die instead of giving up your colleagues," Martin Donovan's character tells him. "That test you passed? Not everybody does. Welcome to the Afterlife."

From there, Washington engages in a series of mysterious missions alongside The Batman himself Robert Pattinson and Clémence Poésy. "As I understand it, you're trying to prevent World War III," Poésy explains.

"Nuclear holocaust," Washington says, to which Poésy adds, "No. Something worse."

Then, he watches a car flip over on the highway -- only for the action to reverse itself in real-time. In another scene, he and Pattinson inspect a glass window with bullet holes in it. "What the hell happened here?" someone asks, only for Washington to reveal, "It hasn't happened yet."

Last summer, 40-second teaser for the film debuted screenings for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Pirated versions of the teaser leaked online, but Warner Bros. never officially posted the trailer publicly.

Opening July 17, 2020, Christopher Nolan's Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clemence Poesy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
