Freshman actor Fionn Whitehead is reportedly in talks to play the lead in Christopher Nolan's next film, a WWII action thriller titled "Dunkirk."

According to TheWrap, Whitehead is Nolan's top choice for the film, but to the site's knowledge, is yet to be represented in the United States, which makes signing him on tricky.

So far the film, which follows the WWII evacuation of Dunkirk, stars veteran actors Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance.

It starts filming in May, using real locations where the true-life events occurred. "Dunkirk" will shoot on a "combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography for maximum image quality and high-impact immersion."

Directed by Nolan and written by Nolan and Emma Thomas, "Dunkirk" hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
