Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd recently played Rick and Morty's Rick Sanchez in live-action. He now has a few ideas for officially merging Dan Harmon's show and the Back to the Future trilogy together.

Speaking at the 46th Saturn Awards event, Lloyd told The Illuminerdi how he managed to become part of the Adult Swim marketing for Rick and Morty's fifth season. Lloyd, whose time-traveling franchise protagonists Doctor Emmett Brown and Marty McFly directly influenced the show's premise, explained that "They called me up and I obliged and we'll see where it goes. You know, it's... I think it's a great idea."

Lloyd was then asked whether he had any thoughts about viewers developing a "change in perception" toward Doc and Marty's personalities, given the popularity and dark storytelling of their animated semi-counterparts. In turn, the actor pitched a way for how he and Michael J. Fox could show up at a later point on Rick and Morty. "Well I thought that maybe if Rick & Morty are out there in space somewhere and accidentally Doc and Marty are out there, they could somehow meet, and that could be a good story," Lloyd suggested. "Where does it go from there? You know, because I think that those are four characters that would be fun to watch and good writing."'

Leading up to the release of Rick and Morty's season finale, Adult Swim debuted a series of shorts featuring Lloyd and Jaeden Martell as real-live versions of the titular mad scientist and his grandson. Three promos were released, with one paying homage to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the other two referencing both the "Pickle Rick" episode and Rick's final monologue from Rick and Morty's pilot.

In Rick and Morty's two-part finale, Rick briefly parts ways with Morty to make amends for their abusive relationship while embracing an anime lifestyle with two crows. The two eventually reunite but, after visiting the Citadel of Ricks to fix Morty, are brought to President Morty's office, who reveals himself to be the evil eyepatch-wearing Morty from Season 1.

This leads to Morty discovering multiple revelations about Rick and President Morty, specifically that their multiverse's Central Finite Curve is a Rick-made creation designed to isolate other parallel worlds where he's the smartest man alive, all while creating infinite Mortys for infinite versions of Rick. While Evil Morty successfully destroys the Citadel to open a gateway beyond the Curve and leave, Rick and Morty also escape its destruction in a ship with various alternate Morty's, leaving their next travel destination unknown.

Rick and Morty Season 5 arrives on DVD and Blu-ray Dec. 7.
