While Guy Pearce and Andy Serkis' Marvel Cinematic Universe characters may have never met on the big screen, the duo will appear together in a much different capacity in a television miniseries adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

BBC has released the first trailer for the upcoming miniseries, revealing a much spookier, ghastly version of the story that hews closer to the imagery in the classic Charles Dickens novel. Pearce's Ebenezer Scrooge is confronted by a host of ghosts one cold Christmas Eve night, including Serkis as the Ghost of Christmas Past.

News of Pearce and Serkis' casting was first announced in May. The project is a co-production between the BBC and FX, the latter of which will handle North American distribution. The miniseries is also one of the final acting roles of the late Rutger Hauer, who appears as the Ghost of Christmas Future -- the late Blade Runner and Batman Begins actor passed away in July.

First published in 1843, Dickens' A Christmas Carol tells the tale of miserly, old businessman Ebenezer Scrooge, who is warned by the ghost of his recently departed business partner Jacob Marley about the price of his lifelong greed and lack of compassion.
