Wednesday star Christina Ricci says she's not ruling out a return to the Netflix series.

While attending the premiere of Yellowjackets Season 2, Ricci spoke to Entertainment Tonight. When asked about her future on Wednesday, the breakout show starring Jenna Ortega, Ricci could not comment on the showrunners' plans for next season, but said she is keeping the possibility of returning to Nevermore Academy alive. "I don't think I'm allowed to say," Ricci said. "I mean on my end, the door is open."

After having played Wednesday Addams in Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 The Addams Family film adaptation and its 1993 sequel Addams Family Values, Ricci was cast on Wednesday as botany teacher Marilyn Thornhill, who was later revealed to be the series' secret antagonist. Though Thornhill appeared to meet a fatal end by the season finale, the show's supernatural setting could provide reasons for her to come back to life.

Wednesday Addams Shines in Her Own Series

Under the direction of Tim Burton and series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday served as a unique re-imagination of Charles Addams' cartoon creations. Rather than focus on the Addams Family as a whole, Wednesday took on a detective-comedy direction, with the titular character investigating a local murder mystery in her private school. The series became Netflix's second-biggest premiere and set a Nielsen streaming record of earning over 5 billion minutes viewed in its second week. Ortega became an instant superstar with her deadpan performance and her one-of-a-kind dance routine in Episode 4: "Woe What a Night."

The show has been a critical and commercial success and has landed a Season 2 renewal from Netflix, but Ortega admitted she wished Wednesday was not as popular as it is now. "I didn't expect the reaction," Ortega said. "The [Wednesday] cast and I, I remember, we used to talk about it in Romania [where the show was filmed], we were like, 'Hey, what do you think will happen with the show?' That was it, that was the most we ever really got into it. So I thought it wasn't going to be watched. That it will be a nice little gem that someone finds."

Season 1 of Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix. Ricci will be seen next in Yellowjackets Season 2 premiering March 24 on Showtime.
