Thor: Love and Thunder star Christian Bale recently revealed that he had to force his son to sit through Thor: Ragnarok.

Bale recalled how his youngest child, Joseph, struggled to stay in his seat during a screening of the 2017 blockbuster in an interview with GQ. "I took my son to see Ragnarok," he said. "He was climbing like a monkey all across [the seats] and then he was like, 'Oh, I’ve had enough now, let's get on [home].' I was like, 'No, no, no. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.' I was just like, 'I want to finish it.'" Bale added that his enjoyment of Thor: Ragnarok was what led him to sign on for its sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder, coupled with the potential he saw in his character, Gorr the God Butcher.

Bale opened up about his experience of filming Thor: Love and Thunder in an earlier interview, praising director Taika Waititi for allowing him to push the envelope with his performance. The Oscar-winning actor noted that this meant his portrayal of Gorr occasionally strayed into potentially R-rated territory, which his co-star Chris Hemsworth reminded him wasn't a good fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie's target audience. Bale confirmed that he agreed with Hemsworth's position and had no issue with the edgier aspects of his performance being trimmed from the final cut.

Christian Bale on Thor 4's Gorr the God Butcher

While the freedom Bale received on the Thor: Love and Thunder set no doubt contributed to his fond memories of the shoot, the fact he was playing the film's villain was apparently a significant factor, as well. The star has repeatedly stressed how much more challenging it was to portray Batman in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy than it was bringing Gorr to life. "[Villains] not only have more fun, but they're easier to play. Because everybody is fascinated with bad guys, right? The minute the bad guy walks on the screen, no one's looking at the good guy anymore. All eyes go to the bad guy, so it's a much easier acting gig," he said.

Bale even avoided the kind of intensive workout regimen on Thor: Love and Thunder that characterized his stint as the Caped Crusader, convincing Waititi that their version of Gorr didn't need a bulky physique. "I said to Taika Waititi, the director: 'Mate, we got to have a whole different take. It’s got to be shadow monsters and dark matter powers." he said. "'Have him be skinny and waiflike and apparently no match for Thor.'"
