Christian Bale Eyes Todd Field's Crime Drama Creed of Violence

Christian Bale is in early negotiations to star in writer/director Todd Field's period crime drama The Creed of Violence, Variety reports.

Based on Boston Teran's acclaimed 2009 novel, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1910 Mexican revolution as a small-time assassin named Rawbone and a young Bureau of Investigation named John Lourdes are forced to work together to infiltrate the Mexican underground. Bale would play Rawbone.

Cross Creek Pictures is financing the film, which will be distributed by Universal. Filming is set to begin in early 2013 in the American Southwest and Mexico.

Bale, who won an Academy Award last year for his performance in The Fighter, of course currently appears in The Dark Knight Rises.
