Thor: Love and Thunder star Christian Bale has addressed what it would take for him to be willing to step back into Batman's iconic cowl and cape.

While promoting his upcoming entrance into the MCU as Thor 4's villainous Gorr, Bale was asked by ComicBook.com whether Warner Bros. has approached him with an offer to return to his Dark Knight role. "No, no, no. Nobody, nobody reaches out to me or they keep me like a mushroom, keep me in the dark and feed me sh-t," the actor said befor explaining what it would take for him to return to Gotham City. "For me, that would be a matter of [Dark Knight trilogy director] Chris Nolan, if he ever decided to do it again and if he chose to come my way again, then yeah, I would consider it because that was always our pact between each other is we would just stick to it. We said we would only ever make three. And then I said to myself, and I'd only ever make it with Chris."

Bale and Nolan teamed up for the critically-acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy which consisted of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. The movies saw Gotham take a more realistic view of Batman than had been seen before on the big screen, following the journey of Bruce Wayne as he became the legendary hero and battled against several classic villains, including Scarecrow, Joker and Bane.

Since then, Ben Affleck wore Batman's cowl as the DCEU's dark vigilante, portraying the character in Justice League and, reportedly, the upcoming The Flash. Most recently, Robert Pattinson played the character in a film set outside the main DC film continuity. When asked if Bale had seen Pattinson's film, the actor admitted he hadn't. " I will see it," Bale added. "But I will, I certainly will."

For his latest big-screen role, Bale has made the transition from DC hero to Marvel villain to play Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. According to the god of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth, Bale's portrayal of Gorr is "brilliant" and even frightened other members of the cast. "The rest of us would be in our world of improvisation, comedy, and fun – then he'd walk on set, and we'd all look at each other and say, 'Oh, my God! This is really intense. This is really scary,'" said Hemsworth.

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8. The Dark Knight Trilogy can be streamed on HBO Max.
