Chris Zylka Confirmed As Flash Thompson In Spider-Man Reboot

Actor-model Chris Zylka has been cast as Peter Parker’s bullying classmate Flash Thompson in Columbia’s Spider-Man reboot, The Wrap confirms.

Rumors began swirling in mid-November that the 25-year-old actor, best known for his recurring role in Hannah Montana, had landed the part — they were buoyed by a brief Twitter exchange — but Zylka’s name was absent from the most recent casting reports.

Debuting in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, Flash Thompson was a high-school football player who harassed Peter Parker, calling him “Puny Parker,” while admiring Spider-Man. Presumably that’s the take we’ll see on the character in the Marc Webb-directed movie. True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello played Thompson in 2002’s Spider-Man and 2007’s Spider-Man 3.

Zylka joins a cast that stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone — Comic Book Resources posted the first photos of Stone as Gwen Stacy this morning — plus Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse. Production has just begun on the film, which is set for a July 3, 2012, release.
