LEGO has unveiled a new buildable set for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Once constructed, the set, which totals 1,825 pieces, depicts the spaceship used by Rex Dangervest, an intergalactic hero who comes to the aid of Master Builder Emmet in the film. The spaceship is called the Rexcelsior, which is a subtle reference to Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee, who passed away last November.
The set measures over 7 inches high, 15 inches long and 8 inches wide. The spaceship has boosters, a dual microfigure cockpit, a detailed microscale interior with various rooms and compartments, opening doors and a rising roof for easy play. The set also has a handle with a trigger to fire the rapid-fire, six-missile spring-loaded shooter, as well as ammo storage with six extra missiles. In addition to Rex and Emmet, you also get Emmet's house, a forklift, two interaptors and a dropship.
Rexcelsior is a play on the popular catchphrase "excelsior" used by Lee throughout his life. The co-creator of many iconic Marvel characters, Lee also found further fame and recognition for his cameos in Marvel films and television shows. He will make posthumous cameos in the upcoming Marvel films Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.
Directed by Mike Mitchell, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part reunites Chris Pratt as Emmet, Elizabeth Banks as Lucy, Will Arnett as Batman, Nick Offerman as Metal Beard and Alison Brie as Unikitty. They're joined by Tiffany Haddish as Queen Watevra Wa-Nab, Stephanie Beatriz as Sweet Mayhem and Arturo Castro as Ice Cream Cone. The film opens on Feb. 8.
This LEGO set is priced at $149.99 and is available for purchase May 1.
