Chris Pratt revealed in a new book that he tried to pass on the opportunity to play Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.

In the recently published book, The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor revealed that he was initially reluctant to play a character like Star-Lord. "At the time, as an actor, I didn't really believe that I would be right for Quill," Pratt explained. "I was really redefining who I was as an actor. I didn't think I'd fit unless I'd play a sidekick character. I didn't see myself as a Star-Lord type, or a hero type. This is gonna sound crazy, but I even passed on the opportunity to audition for it a couple of times."

Guardians of the Galaxy executive producer Jeremey Latcham also revealed in the book that it was his wife who thought Chris Pratt would be good for the role. "I remember showing her all the audition tapes and she was like, 'You want someone hunky and funny? The guy from Everwood. I think he's on Parks and Rec now. But on Everwood, he was so hot,'" explained Latcham.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy saw Peter Quill steal a mysterious orb from Ronan the Accuser. Quill became the main target of a manhunt and ended up reluctantly teaming up with a group of intergalactic outlaws. This group of misfits ultimately stopped Ronan from using the power of the orb to destroy planets before turning into space-faring vigilantes.

The film also starred Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser. Chris Pratt then went on to reprise his role as Star-Lord alongside the other Guardians in the popular sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. He also appeared in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Pratt is set to be busy in the next few years. On top of the next installment in the Jurassic World franchise, the actor will also voice Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie and Garfield in the untitled Garfield film. Pratt is set to return as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, which is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023.
