Actor Chris Pratt shut down rumors that he's starring in the fifth Indiana Jones film once and for all.

Pratt appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and explained that he has nothing to do with the new film. When asked if he was involved in the project, Pratt said, "No, aren't they doing Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford?" Pratt continued, saying Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford would be a tough act to follow. The actor described a quote he once read from Ford, which said, "When I die, Indiana Jones dies." He added, "Am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play [Indiana Jones]?"

But no actor has to worry about being haunted in the near future, as Ford is returning to his role as Jones in the newest installment. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also assured fans Ford will never be replaced as Indiana Jones. "We would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford," she said. "Having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you, there isn't a day I wasn't on set where I was like, 'Yes – this is Indiana Jones."

This might mean the franchise will end after the upcoming sequel. According to Star Wars and Indiana Jones composer John Williams, Ford is retiring from acting after Indiana Jones 5.

When Does Indiana Jones 5 Release?

Indiana Jones 5, which is rumored to be called Indy, currently has a release date of June 30, 2023. The last installment in the series, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, came out in 2008 and ended with Jones marrying Marion (Karen Allen). Plot details for the fifth film have not yet been revealed, though behind-the-scenes photos show what some fans think is a Roman gladiator getup.

Though Ford has not played Jones in over a decade, he's been keeping busy. In 2015, he returned to his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and again in 2019 in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He also appeared in 2017's Blade Runner 2049, reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard.

Alongside Ford, Indiana Jones 5 will feature Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen, Stalingrad's Thomas Kretschmann, Uncharted's Antonio Banderas, Narcos' Boyd Holbrook, The Resident's Shaunette Renée Wilson, Jurassic World's Toby Jones, and Black Widow's Olivier Richters. The screenplay is penned by Edge of Tomorrow writing team Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.
