One of the biggest mysteries in Wonder Woman 1984 involves the return of Chris Pine's character, Steve Trevor.

While the character heroically sacrificed his life at the end of the original 2017, Pine's Trevor is confirmed to return in the upcoming sequel. In a recent interview, Pine hinted at Steve Trevor's new role.

"This one is a little different for me tonally," Pine explained to Variety. "The tables are turned, and I’m more of the deer in the headlights.”

His comments appear to confirm previous speculation that while the original film portrayed Gal Gadot's Diana as a fish out water as she travels from the isolated island of Themyscira to a Europe torn apart by World War I, Wonder Woman 1984 will have Steve Trevor be out of his element instead, as he apparently finds himself back to life decades after his death. The sequel wrapped principal photography last month, and has entered post-production for its planned 2020 release.
