Given the fiery demise of Steve Trevor during the climax of 2017's Wonder Woman, many fans were caught by surprise when it was revealed that Chris Pine would be reprising his role as the character in the upcoming sequel Wonder Woman 1984.
However, while many people were shocked by this revelation, Chris Pine himself was not one of them. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Pine revealed that the idea of Steve Trevor returning in the Wonder Woman sequel was actually first optioned to him by director Patty Jenkins before production on the first film had even wrapped.
When asked by the interviewer how surprised he was to learn his character would be returning for Wonder Woman 1984, Pine replied, "Not all that surprised."
"Patty [Jenkins] had told me this idea somewhere in the middle of the first one," he continued. "And when Patty gets an idea, it's a pretty powerful thing, because you can see the kernel land in the dirt and then all of a sudden it just starts growing and it becomes a tree... She can make you do anything."
Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Diana, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film opens June 5, 2020.
