Nightwing director Chris McKay is in talks to direct Dungeons & Dragons for Hasbro and Paramount Pictures.

Variety reports the filmmaker has been high on Hasbro's list since the success of Warner Bros.' The LEGO Batman Movie, which McKay directed. Given his role as an executive producer on The LEGO Sequel, McKay has become something of a hot commodity in a short amount of time.

Announced in December among Hasbro's slate of upcoming filmsDungeons & Dragons will be one of the first projects for the newly created AllSpark Pictures production banner, formed by the toymaker to develop films based on its properties.

What McKay's involvement would mean for Warner Bros.' Nightwing film remains to be seen. A recent report indicated that Flashpoint and Batgirl will be among the next DC Comics-based films to go into production. If that's the case, McKay's film about Batman's first sidekick could interfere with the expected 2021 release date for Dungeons & Dragons.

Dungeons & Dragons is slated for release on July 23, 2021. The film was written by Michael Gillio, with Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis serving as producers.
