Chris Hemsworth revealed his wife's negative opinion of the muscle he gained for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Speaking to USA Today, Hemsworth explained how he gained significantly larger muscles for the fourth installment of the Thor series but his beloved didn't appreciate the bulk. "My wife was like, 'Bleh, it's too much.' There are a lot of my male friends who are like, "Yeah!" but a lot of female friends and family are like, 'Yuck,'" Hemsworth said. He claimed he would not beef up to the same level again and any future appearances of Thor will feature a smaller version.

Hemsworth claimed that he hadn't planned for his muscles to get so big, but he started training while confined to his home in Australia with his wife and their three children. His exercise routine included lifting weights, martial arts, swimming and consuming around 6,000 calories a day. "It came from boredom, sitting in COVID lockdown was like a prison," Hemsworth said. "It was train, eat, train, eat. Nothing else to do. Then I turned up for the film bigger than I've ever been."

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi commented on the actor's muscles as well. "It was crazy how big Chris got for this," Waititi said. "He's huge already, but when I saw his arms, they were twice as big as normal, as wide as my head." The director also claimed Hemsworth's muscles were natural, something the actor admitted was difficult to maintain during 12-hour set days. Hemsworth went as far as to state that they were horrible and that he would opt to take a muscle costume next time.
