Chris Hemsworth discussed the conditions under which he'd return to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth was asked about the future of the God of Thunder considering his most recent outing, 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, left the door open for a sequel. "Yeah, I think they always do," he answered. "Look, I'm completely open to it, if there is something unique and fresh and unexpected to do with the character and the world. I've always loved the experience. I've been very thankful I've been able to do something different each time." Although Thor has appeared in four solo films and four Avengers movies, the latter two Thor films, directed by Taika Waititi, have been particularly praised for their sense of humor and visual spectacles in addition to their action and heart.

Hemsworth also acknowledged that, much like Robert Downer Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans's Captain America, a conclusion to Thor's story is on the horizon. "I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean?" he said. "I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know—am I at that stage? Who knows?"

Love and Thunder Introduces New Marvel Characters

Love and Thunder closed by adding two new characters to Thor's mythos. The first is Love, the daughter of Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who Thor adopts and goes on adventures with. The character is played by Hemsworth's actual daughter, India Rose Hemsworth. Love and Thunder's post-credits stinger also introduced a new antagonist into the MCU: Hercules, played by Brett Goldstein, who is charged by his father Zeus (Russel Crowe) to carry on a vendetta against Thor.

Outside of the MCU, Hemsworth is set to co-star in Fury Road prequel Furiosa, the fifth film in the Mad Max series. The actor praised writer/director George Miller, saying, "Now, if something's going to pull me away from my family and my kids, it's got to be a positive, constructive, collaborative experience. I shot with George Miller...and I said to my agent said, 'That's where I want to spend my work hours; with someone who is kind and collaborative and interesting.'" He is also starring in the docuseries Limitless, in which he pushes his body to the extreme.

All the Thor movies and Limitless with Chris Hemsworth are available to stream on Disney+.
