While Thor: Love and Thunder is currently slated to be Chris Hemsworth's last outing as the titular God of Thunder, he's reiterated his desire to continue playing the role.

In an interview with Today, Hemsworth was asked if he'd sign up for more Thor films. He replied, "As long as they'll have me, I'll turn up, but I feel like they might be waning that kind of enthusiasm." The interviewers showed their support for Hemsworth returning as Thor, and he remarked that they should tell everyone at Disney the same.

Hemsworth made his first appearance as the God of Thunder in 2011's Thor, which saw him being banished from Asgard and forced to prove himself worthy of regaining his magical hammer, Mjölnir. He later reprised his role in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, which is generally considered one of the weaker films in the MCU.

Hemsworth most recent solo appearance as the God of Thunder came in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. Helmed by What We Do in the Shadows co-creator Taika Waititi, that film proved immensely popular and made $854 million against a budget of approximately $180 million, resulting in it becoming the highest-grossing entry in the Thor trilogy.

In addition to the Thor movies, Hemsworth has played the God of Thunder in every Avengers film as well as 2016's Doctor Strange. He also provided voice acting for both Loki and What If...? Outside of the MCU, Hemsworth is known for his roles in such movies as 2012's The Cabin in the Woods, 2016's Ghostbusters and 2020's Extraction. His next project, Escape from Spiderhead, is set to release on Netflix in 2022.

Plot details about the Thor: Love and Thunder are scare at this time, though it will follow after the events of 2018's Avengers: Endgame. As such, the Guardians of the Galaxy -- a team currently consisting of Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket, Nebula and Drax the Destroyer -- will appear in the movie, as Thor was last seen with them at the close of Endgame. Natalie Portman will also reprise her role as Jane Foster after having sat out Ragnarok. Love and Thunder will see her become the Mighty Thor. And while all of those characters will almost certainly be Thor's allies, Christian Bale is set to play Gorr the God Butcher, one of the Asgardian's fiercest comic book foes.

Slated for July 8, 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder will be the fourth film in the God of Thunder's solo franchise.
