Bad Times at the El Royale’s first trailer introduces a menacing Chris Hemsworth as the film’s resident open-shirted, charismatic cult leader. Directed by Drew Goddard, the writer behind Cloverfield and director of The Cabin in the Woods, the film brings an all-star cast together at the El Royale hotel for a night of murderous revelations.

The film will follow seven strangers with secrets to hide, all of whom have been invited to the Lake Tahoe hotel with a disturbing past. Each visitor will receive a shot at redemption during their stay, and then things will promptly go to hell.

Goddard is perhaps best known to fans as the showrunner for the first season of Netflix’s Daredevil. Goddard’s writing credits stretch much further back than that, to series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias and Lost. More recently, Goddard won an Academy Award for his film adaptation of The Martian, which was massively successful at the box office. Goddard was originally going to direct The Martian but left the project for an opportunity to direct Sony’s since-canceled Sinister Six movie.
