Chris Evans isn't ready to surrender the shield.

The Captain America: The Winter Soldier star spoke with MTV about his upcoming appearances as Steve Rogers, including in the announced (but still untitled) Captain America 3. Evans downplayed rumors he'll be passing the shield to another superhero in the next film, mirroring the character's death in the acclaimed Marvel comics run.

"Not yet," he said. "I have a few more [Marvel] movies I have to finish first, which I'm happy to do. I'm sure it'll happen at some point. All good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character. I'm honored to be part of the Marvel Universe for now."

So, what can we expect from Evans' next chance at Cap? The actor danced around other rumors that he'll be leading a new team of Avengers in Captain America 3, but made it clear that the movie will be firmly connected to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"That's the beauty of the Marvel Universe: it's this giant web of plot where everything is connected to everything else, whether it's Thor, Iron Man, the Avengers — everything is involved," he said. "That's the beautiful thing, and especially for the fanboys who understand these plot lines. Every time a new movie is announced, there's this surge of excitement about where it's going to go. I think with Cap 3, we're going to continue that excitement."

"Marvel doesn't disappoint," he continued. "Whatever you're hoping for, you're probably going to get."

Captain America 3 hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
