It was previously suggested that Captain America star Chris Evans might return to the franchise in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project.

Captain America 4 was recently announced to be in development with Falcon and the Winter Soldier executive producer Malcolm Spellman attached to write the film with writer Dalan Musson alongside him.. It has been reported that Evans' rumored return to the MCU will be featured in a separate project and not the fourth instalment in the Captain America film series, which will instead place Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, in the spotlight.

Wilson took on the role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier with a new costume created for him by the Wakandans. In addition, Wilson accepted the responsibility of carrying the vibranium shield that was left to him by an elderly Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame. The finale of the Disney+ series confirmed that Wilson will be referred to in the MCU as the new Cap with an altered title that appeared prior to the credits.

It should be noted that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously dismissed rumors of Evans' return to the franchise, stating, "I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself," in reference to Evans seemingly dismissing the claim on social media.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The entire first season is available to stream on Disney+.
