Chris Evans recently responded to Anthony Mackie replacing him as the Sentinel of Liberty in Captain America 4.Evans, who played Steve Rogers in 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, weighed in on his former co-star taking up the Captain America mantle in an interview with journalist Kevin Polowy on Twitter. "No one better to do it [than Mackie]," he said. "He does it justice and I'm so proud of him. I can't wait to see what [Marvel Studios does] in the future with [the Captain America franchise]."Related: Lightyear First Reactions Praise Chris Evans' Take on Pixar's Space Ranger

Evans previously opened up about whether he'd ever appear as Captain America in the MCU again, insisting that the project would have to be perfect for him to consider taking part. Acknowledging that this answer will likely come as a disappointment to fans, Evans explained that any additional outings as the First Avenger risked negatively impacting how he felt about the role. "It just would be scary to, you know, rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me. You know, that role means so much to me. So to revisit it, it would be a tall order," he said.

While Evans isn't planning to shoulder Cap's iconic star-spangled shield again any time soon, Mackie is signed on for Captain America 4 already. The actor officially reached a deal with Marvel Studios in August 2021, several months after the final episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier first aired on Disney+. That series charted Sam Wilson's journey to becoming the new incarnation of Captain America, a transition that the upcoming movie is expected to explore.

More recently, Mackie revealed how he's been using music to help him prepare for Captain America 4. "Every role I play I pick a song to represent that character... I can't say [what my Captain America 4 song is] on camera but it's a Tupac song," he said. "Yeah, yeah -- and it starts off 'First off, dot dot dot dot dot dot...'" Based on Mackie's description, the unnamed song he refers to seems to be the 1996 diss track "Hit 'Em Up."

Mackie also confirmed in mid-April 2022 that he was set to begin filming Captain America 4 "in a few weeks," presumably once he was done filming the Twisted Metal adaptation for Peacock. The star added that his diet had already changed in the lead-up to filming and consisted of "a lot of vegetables and chicken breasts."

Captain America 4 does not yet have a release date.
