Casting is an important part of comic book character portrayal on the big screen. X-Men writer and Chris Claremont, who has overseen several of the X-Men's illustrious adventures in the comics, think's Idris Elba would be a great fit for Bishop, the time-hopping mutant.

"Speaking purely from my X-pective, he is *so* totally perfect for (my vision of) Bishop." Claremont wrote in a recent post on his Facebook. He also added that Elba would be ideal for the role of James Bond, echoing sentiments that have been expressed by many,

After writing the X-Men for 17 continuous years and several significant stints after that, Claremont has had a wealth of experience working on almost every member of the team, including Bishop.

Claremont made the post after seeing the first trailer for the upcoming Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.In that movie, Elba plays the super-powered villain Brixton. Even though he's not a hero, Claremont said that he still found himself rooting for the character.

Ironically, Bishop has also towed the line between hero and villain, especially in the late 2000s story Messiah Complex, where he fought Cable and the X-Men  over the fate of a child named Hope Summers who could change mutantkind's future forever.

Already acquainted with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elba has previously portrayed Heimdall in several instances across the universe's phases. With Heimdall meeting his unfortunate end in Infinity War, however, Idris might be freed up for when the X-Men arrive.

It's worth noting that Elba isn't a stranger to Marvel's movies either. He's already portrayed the all-seeing Asgardian Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he portrayed the mysterious Moreau in 2011's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Previously, Bishop has appeared as a minor character in Fox's X-Men movie franchise, where he was played by Omar Sy in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Bishop, created by John Byrne and Whilce Portacio in 1991's Uncanny X-Men #282, has yet to have his most prominent storylines adapted to the big screen. While he was a major character throughout the 1990s, Bishop has been largely unexplored by Fox. While it's not clear, at best, if Elba would ever take another role in the MCU, Marvel Studios will have plenty of opportunities to flesh Bishop out without retreading any previous cinematic attempts once the X-Men enter the MCU.

Directed by David Leitch from a script by longtime Fast & Furious narrative architect Chris Morgan, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby. The film arrives Aug. 2.
