WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1, streaming now on Netflix.

Just as a Catholic school might have a statue dedicated to a patron saint, it's only logical that the Academy of Unseen Arts on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina would erect an effigy to its protector. Of course, seeing as how the school is operated by the Church of Night, Greendale's coven, that is Satan himself. But this isn't just any likeness of the Dark Lord; it's a replica of a very real statue of Baphomet.

Positioned prominently in the lobby of the Academy, the oversize sculpture depicts a figure with a goat's head and hooves, and wings, gazed upon adoringly by a pair of children. If it looks familiar, it's probably because you're aware of more than 700 years of occult history, or else you recall a 2014 dispute over a monument to the Ten Commandments on the lawn of the Oklahoma State Capitol. In response, the Satanic Temple launched a crowdfunding campaign to commission a Baphomet statue, by Mark Porter, to also be installed on the capitol grounds.

When the fight over the Ten Commandments monument was resolved the following year, the nine-foot-tall, 2,000-pound statue of the goat-headed go was unveiled at the Detroit chapter of the Satanic Temple. It found a temporary home earlier this year on a flatbed truck parked outside the Arkansas State Capitol, to protest another Ten Commandments monument on display there.

While the Satanic Temple's completed statue is bronze, the one on display in the entry hall of the Academy of Unseen Arts closely resembles its plaster cast. It's a respectable, but not exact, replica; for instance, the torso of Porter's original is more sinewy and defined. And of course the Satanic Temple's tribute to Baphomet doesn't bleed from the eyes and pentagram when something downright apocalyptic is about to happen, as the Academy's does in the season finale.

At least as far as we know.
