Bringing weeks of anticipation to an end, Netflix has debuted a teaser announcing the release date for the fourth, and final, chapter of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The final eight episodes will arrive on the streaming service Dec. 31, providing fans with an absolutely wicked way to ring in the New Year.
Developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale) from the Archie Comics series of the same name, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a dark coming-of-age story about Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), a teenage witch who struggles to find a balance between her birthright -- it turns out she's Lucifer's daughter -- her family, and her mortal friends in Greendale.
Clocking in at 57 seconds, the teaser is part rapid-fire retrospective, following Sabrina from her Dark Baptism in Part 1 to those all-important cheerleader tryouts in Part 3, and part preview of the series final chapter, which promises a war between the Greendale Coven and the Eldritch Terrors -- that is, the old gods.
Adrift in Part 3 after rejecting Satan, the Greendale Coven discovered newfound allies in its war against the Pagans, with the fate of the world at stake, even as Sabrina competed against Caliban for the throne of Hell. Although Sabrina ultimately emerged victorious (with the help of a second version of herself), even darker times lay ahead as Father Blackwood succeeded in unleashing in unleashing the Eldritch Terrors.
In the final episodes, the coven must fight each terrifying threat one by one, a series of confrontations that will culminate with The Void, the End of All Things. And, because this is Chilling Adventures, there's also a romantic element, with Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) attempting to work his way back into Sabrina's heart.
Although Netflix announced the cancellation of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in July, Aguirre-Sacasa hinted the following month there might be life left in the series beyond this final chapter. He teased just last week for fans to be on the lookout for some "extremely wicked" news, although it's unclear whether that's this release-date announcement, or something more.
Aguirre-Sacasa previously revealed the planned fifth part of Chilling Adventures would have been "Witch War," involving a crossover with Riverdale. That story will now continue instead in the comics.
