An audition tape for the The CW's Archie Comics adaptation, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, has surfaced, featuring Maggie McKenna, and Australian actress best known for her role of Muriel Helsop in Muriel's Wedding the Musical.

The tape goes a long way to show that Archie and The CW aren't hesitating to offer a dark and grim version of the Sabrina. Harvey, an off-screen character, is scared of being in the woods, but Sabrina isn't afraid at all. She soon reveals that she's about to go through a "rebirth," an event that only happens once every 66 years in the form of a "dark baptism." Though she's quick to note that she likes dark things -- in fact, darker the better -- Sabrina admits it's all pointless without a little bit of light.

The tape has surfaced thanks to Omega Underground, who report that Charlie Torr, Ariel Kaplan, Bekka Walker, Adelina Hudson, and Julia Rehwald have also audienced for the starring role.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina reimagines Sabrina Spellman, the teenage witch, in a dark coming-of-age story. The live-action series will see a young Sabrina trying to get to grips with being half-witch and half-human, while fighting off against the evil forces that threaten her. While the comics take place in the 60's, there's no saying when the show will occur.

The TV drama will find young Sabrina trying to reconcile her dual nature — she’s half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit. The comic is set in the 1960s, but there’s no indication whether the adaptation will be a period piece.
