Child's Play

1988's Child's Play rode the supernatural slasher wave that redefined the genre with A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film follows serial killer Charles Lee Ray, who transfers his soul into a Good Guys doll through voodoo after being fatally wounded. Parallel to his story, a single mother named Karen Barclay purchases the doll for her son Andy. Chucky then decides to use Andy's body as a home for his soul and kill anyone who stands in his way. The movie expands the genre by showing the importance of listening to everyone, including small children.

Child's Play is available on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Sling TV and Philo with a premium subscription. The film is also available with a Starz subscription and can be rented through Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vudu.

Child's Play 2

Following the tragedies in the first film, Child's Play 2 reveals that no one believed Andy and Karen's claims of a killer doll. As a result, Andy's mother was separated from him, and Andy went to a new home. Parallel to his story, the toy company that created the Good Guys dolls finds Chucky's body and restores it. But an electrical surge brings Chucky back from the dead, ready to get revenge on Andy. Eventually, the young child crosses paths with the killer and has to outsmart his tormentor within exciting set pieces that feature even more creative kills.

Child's Play 2 is available for free on Peacock and can be watched on Hulu, Sling TV and Philo with a premium subscription. The film is also available with a fuboTV subscription and can be rented through Amazon Prime Video, Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vudu.

Child's Play 3

Eight years after Chucky's second defeat, the Play Pals company finds Chucky's body in the toy factory he was killed in as they attempt to restore the factory. But as the body is lifted with a crane, some of his blood leaks into a vat of plastic. Thus, Chucky is given new life thanks to the body being made with his blood. In the eight years since the sequel, Andy has had a troubled childhood and is sent to a military school. Unfortunately, Chucky ends up finding Andy and continues his murder spree. While the movie isn't the most memorable, it offers tremendous character growth for Andy, who is more a hero than a victim.

Child's Play 3 is available for free on Peacock and can be watched on Hulu, Sling TV and Philo with a premium subscription. The film is also available with a fuboTV subscription and can be rented through Amazon Prime Video, Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vudu.

Bride of Chucky

Following the previous trilogy, Bride of Chucky shifts the genre from slasher horror to slasher romance. Now, Chucky is restored by his longtime girlfriend, Tiffany Valentine. But as it turns out, she's just as sadistic as him, which often causes the two to burn hot and butt heads. Following one of her outbursts, Chucky kills Tiffany and puts her body in a doll as well. Now the two killer dolls leave a trail of victims in the hopes of finding two bodies to place their souls in and gain a new lease on life. The movie is a great way to see how a character like Chucky handles feelings of love and how Tiffany handles his killer temper.

Seed of Chucky

Seed of Chucky continues the slasher comedy trend and takes the humor and irreverence to a new level. Bride of Chucky reveals that Tiffany and Chucky have a child, and Seed of Chucky dives deeper into Glen/Glenda's story. The film also asks, "Can Chucky stop killing?" with violent and hilarious results. It's definitely the strangest entry but worth a watch for any fan of the franchise, thanks to its outrageous kills and totally unexpected plot twists.

Seed of Chucky is available for free on Peacock and can be watched on Hulu, Sling TV and Philo with a premium subscription. The film is also available with a fuboTV subscription and can be rented through Amazon Prime Video, Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vudu.

Curse of Chucky

Curse of Chucky is a special entry into the series because it takes the story back to its horror roots and ties directly to the original film. Serving as a soft reboot, the film takes place nine years after the previous movie and sees a fully restored Chucky terrorizing Nica, a person with paraplegia, in a run-down home. There are murders galore and an after-credits cameo that will surely make longtime fans happy. As a whole, Curse of Chucky is a fun and surprisingly scary return to basics.

Cult of Chucky

Cult of Chucky continues Nica's story, who has been framed for the deaths in the previous film. She's now housed in a mental institution along with others where they use  Good Guys dolls as therapy. In typical Child's Play fashion, Chucky finds his way into the institution to continue tormenting Nica. However, he has learned how to split his soul into the other dolls and starts his own cult of Chuckys. The film calls back to the franchise's psychological horror as Nica questions whether or not Chucky is real. The movie also features some great crossovers from previous films, making it required viewing for longtime fans.

Cult of Chucky is available for free on Peacock and can be watched on Hulu, Sling TV and Philo with a premium subscription. The film is also available with a fuboTV subscription and can be rented through Amazon Prime Video, Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vudu.

Child's Play (2019)

2019's Child's Play brings Chucky's terror to a modern age. Rather than voodoo bringing the doll to life, the film focuses on the dangers of technology. In the movie, Andy receives the advanced Buddi doll. These dolls act as companions to children and the company's already existing technology. That being said, Andy's Buddi doll is sabotaged and much more clingy to Andy than any other toy. Another side effect of his malfunction, Chucky will kill for Andy and creates a criminal investigation that the young boy has to get ahead of to protect himself and his family. Child's Play has a unique commentary on how technology has invaded homes and toys and how it could be used against people if abused.

Child's Play (2019) is available to watch watched Sling TV and Amazon Prime Video with a premium subscription. The film is also available with a Paramount+ or Hulu subscription and can be rented through Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vudu.
