Orion Pictures's horror franchise reboot may not be destined to run the box office this weekend (that honor will inevitably go to Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 4), but Child's Play is performing better than you might have expected with one audience: The critics.According to review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, the updated Chucky's first adventure debuted to a freshness rating of 64%, a solid if not spectacular number, especially for a slasher film.RELATED: How Child's Play Changes Chucky For the 21st Century

However, as of this writing, the film's average has actually risen to 66%, an impressive feat considering many films, horror movies in particular, tend to trend downward as more reviews are factored into their Rotten Tomatoes freshness score. Of course, it's still early, and things may eventually turn more towards Rotten than Fresh for Chucky's rebirth, but for now, things are looking good for the franchise's 21st century update.

In the reboot, Chucky (voiced by Mark Hamill) terrorizes a young boy named Andy, wreaking havoc as he also tortures the child's mother (played by Aubrey Plaza), babysitters and several more people who are all unaware of the sinister nature of the Buddi doll.

Based on characters by Don Mancini, Child's Play is written by Tyler Burton Smith and directed by Lars Klevberg. Scheduled to release on June 21, the film stars Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman.
