The Child's Play reboot's first official poster was posted today on the film's Twitter profile.
The poster shows a dark warehouse with a solitary “Buddi” toy box on the floor in the center of the shot. Buddi dolls are likely a new iteration of the Good Guy doll, which the series' main antagonist possesses in the first Child's Play. The contents of the box are either empty or obscured. The ironic tagline above reads, “More than a toy... he's your best friend.” Below is the title of the film, Child's Play, in its iconic original font, with a release date of June 21, 2019.
“Every child in America deserves a best friend, so we built one.” – Henry Kaslan. Introducing Buddi! He’s more than just a toy, he’s your best friend. Meet him on June 21, 2019. #ChildsPlayMovie pic.twitter.com/nwU6JdY1KF— Child's Play Movie (@ChildsPlayMovie) November 12, 2018
Orion Pictures previously put out a picture of a seemingly friendly, non-possessed Buddi doll on its Twitter back in September. CBR reported on this and the negative response from Chucky co-creator Don Macini, who had no desire to reboot the franchise.
Although the franchise's latest sequel, Cult of Chucky, was released just last year, the reboot was announced July 2018 with Polaroid filmmaker Lars Klevberg set to direct. It appears that the reboot will at least loosely follow the same plot as the original 1988 film. Aubrey Plaza has been cast as Karen Barclay, the mother who buys the Chucky-possessed Buddi doll for her son, Andy.
The Child's Play reboot will be the eighth entry in the franchise. It will be the first Chucky film to be released in theaters since Seed of Chucky in 2004
