Child's Play creator Don Mancini says he wants to see Chucky become something supernatural -- at least, more supernatural than a doll inhabited by the soul of a serial killer.

While promoting the second season of the Chucky series, Mancini spoke to ComicBook.com about putting the infamous killer Good Guy doll into different subgenres of horror, namely vampires and zombies. "I spend an unholy amount of time thinking about such things, too much," Mancini said. "But one of the benefits of that is you have a lot of ideas, you have ideas for characters that he can develop relationships with, different realms that he can operate in. You kind of develop those and put them in a drawer and so it's something I've been wanting to do for a while I like I said in the intro I really enjoy plugging all have our characters into different subgenres of horror. I mean, I think, you know, someday we need to do Chucky as a vampire, Chucky as a zombie."

Thus, having previously done an asylum premise in Cult of Chucky and now a Catholicism angle for Chucky's upcoming second season, Mancini has not ruled out going even more supernatural with the character, stating, "It's something I've been thinking about, you know, when you have an ongoing franchise."

However, monster movies have not been the only crazy subgenre that Mancini has considered for the killer doll. The Child's Play creator spoke last year about following in the footsteps of the Friday the 13th, Hellraiser and Leprechaun franchises by sending Chucky to space. "I don't think I've ever come up with like, 'Oh, Chucky couldn't possibly go there.' I don't think so," Mancini said. "And I think one of the great things about Chucky is that he's such a versatile character and we've found that he operates successfully in all kinds of different tones and subgenres, whether it's horror, or comedy, places in-between. So I think as a character he's versatile enough and appealing enough and interesting enough that he could probably go anywhere even into outer space. Which is the one thing I think once I jokingly said something about sending Chucky into space, although I do think it would be a fun movie."

Released in 1988, Child's Play was the story of serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) who transferred his soul into a talking toy doll and raised hell in the life of his kid owner Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent). The film proved popular with audiences and launched a franchise that spawned six sequels and a critically-mixed remake released in 2019. In 2021, the Chucky TV series was launched by Mancini. It continues the original story with the killer doll now in the hands of teenager Jake Wheeler who suspects a series of mysterious deaths in his New Jersey town to be the handiwork of his new toy. The series features special appearances from franchise veterans Vincent, Jennifer Tilly and Christine Elise.

Chucky Season 2 premieres on SYFY and USA Network on Oct. 5, 2022.
