Chewbacca has launched the Star Wars #RoarForChange challenge to raise funds for UNICEF's life-saving work for children around the globe.
The fan-favorite Wookiee, along with Force for Change, is challenging people to share their best roar on social media, from today up until the May 25 premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Chewbacca's co-stars discuss his behavior on the set of Solo: A Star Wars Story, with Donald Glover calling him a complete diva. Warwick Davis notes that Chewie's problem is, "That in his eyes, this is his movie. So he's become a little bit big for his boots." Thandie Newton mentions there's an entire team to groom the huge beast, while Alden Ehrenreich concedes it's been tough on the crew.
Director Ron Howard comes to his defense, and calls out his heart of gold under the gruff exterior and that's why Chewbacca is challenging folks to roar for change.
This isn't the first time we've seen a Chewie Roar Contest. Around April Fools' Day for the past few years, a prankster has called for the best Chewbacca impersonations, with rewards ranging from $50 to $100. But this is the first time Chewbacca has set the challenge with a philanthropic angle to boot.
To participate, post your version of Chewie's roar to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, accompanied by the hashtag #RoarForChange, between May 3 and May 25, and Star Wars: Force for Change U.S. will donate $1 to UNICEF USA, for up to $1 million.
If you're a fan attending Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite tonight, there will be a celebration and park-wide Wookiee roars. The campaign is also promoting the event across Disney stores nationwide who are offering a 10-percent discount on Star Wars purchases between May 4-6 if you roar in store and post on social using the hashtag.
Considering May the 4th Be With You is Friday, Roar for Change is a perfect way to celebrate the day and contribute to charity. Learn more about the contest here.
