With their newest film, Cherry, directors Joe and Anthony Russo and actor Tom Holland take a large departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the directors revealed that there may be a few nods to Spider-Man in Cherry."There might be one or two Spider-Man Easter eggs in there," Joe Russo said during an interview with the Associated Press. "I don't know if anyone's found them yet." Anthony Russo also revealed that one of these Easter eggs is contained within a line of dialogue in the film. "I was just gonna say that that line came from the book though -- we can't say it was intentional," he added.RELATED: With Cherry, The Russo Brothers Move Beyond the MCU With Mostly Positive Results

The Russos first directed Holland in Captain America: Civil War, which marked his debut appearance as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Peter Parker. Holland and the Russos would later reteam for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and Holland has also portrayed Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. He will reprise his role as the web-slinger in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which reunites him with Homecoming and Far From Home director Jon Watts. That film will see Holland's brother, Harry "reprise" his Cherry role, another tie between the films.

The Russos have recently begun filming their next project, The Gray Man. Based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, the film features Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans as a pair of dueling spies. The Gray Man is Netflix's most expensive project to date, boasting a $200 million price tag.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Cherry stars Tom Holland, Ciara Bravo, Jack Reynor, Michael Rispoli, Jeff Wahlberg, Forrest Goodluck, Kyle Harvey and Michael Gandolfini. The film is currently playing in select theaters and is available to stream on Apple TV+.
