Jessica Chastain will star opposite Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf in director John Hillcoat's Prohibition-era thriller The Wettest County.
An adaptation of Matt Bondurant's 2008 novel The Wettest County in the World, itself based on the true story of the author's grandfather and two great-uncles, the movie follows the Bondurant Boys, a notorious gang of moonshiners who ran liquor through Franklin County, Virginia, during Prohibition and in the years after. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chastain will play Hardy's love interest, "a big-city woman now living in a small town who at one time was mixed up with gangsters."
Musician/author Nick Cave, who worked with Hillcoat on The Proposition, is adapting The Wettest County and composing the music.
The trade paper reports that production is set to begin in February for the film, which has "has remained highly coveted amongst the younger set for its meaty roles and colorful setting."
Chastain's upcoming projects include The Tree of Life, with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, and The Fields, with Sam Worthington.
