Charlotte is a P.A. Works anime that deals with humans living in an alternative world who each possess abilities unique to each person. However, it centers on a school funded for children who specifically have abilities. After Yu Otosaka was noticed by the student council president Nao Tomori, he is forced to join the group with two others who possess unique abilities themselves.
Throughout the series, more abilities are explained and given a spotlight. Although not every ability is made equal, there were plenty that were weak and strong. Here are 10 of the most powerful abilities in Charlotte, ranked.
10 Invisibility
Nao Tomori, the female lead of Charlotte, possesses the ability to turn herself invisible. Although this does not allow her to gain any psychical strength, she is able to attack from the shadows by appearing invisibleーalthough there is a flaw.
She is only able to make herself invisible to one person at a time, so even if one person does not see her, the other can. This deactivates her ability, making it arguably the weakest ability in the anime.
9 Spiritism
Yusa Kurobane has the ability to allow herself to be possessed by ghosts. Although this does not sound enjoyable, this is the only way she can communicate with her deceased sister, Misa Kurobane, who died six months before Charlotte began.
The damage dealtーor usefulness of the abilityーmainly depends on who she allows to possess her. If a spirit who possesses her has combat skills or a unique abilityーlike her sister who has Pyrokinesisーthen they can use it through her body. The only flaw she has is she mostly only channels her sister because she thinks of her most of the time. She also doesn't have any memories of who possessed her body.
8 Fast Movement
Jojiro Takajo is a chipper guy for possessing an ability that causes him nothing but pain in the end. Fast Movement does just as it statesーallows Jojiro to travel at impossibly high speeds, but with a large flaw that makes it mostly useless.
He cannot control when or where he stops, which results in him crashing into things or even almost dying multiple times. Despite it causing mass destruction, the big drawback is that it hurts the user as well, making it a relatively strong but fatal ability if not used carefully.
7 Thoughtohraphy
Udo resulted in using his ability, Thoughtagraphy, for the wrong reasons to help aid his ill parents. Although the ability doesn't sound impressive, it can be used in a way that would make it one of the most powerful abilitiesーas when he used it for blackmail.
His ability allows him to take pictures of what the user sees in their mind. If he got his hands on incriminating information, it would be an ability that could destroy thousands of lives.
6 Telekinesis
Telekinesis is a straightforward ability that anyone who has watched a few sceince-fiction or supernatural anime has seen at least once. This ability grants the user to manipulate objects by using their mindーas well as the position and direction of said object.
It is one of the best abilities in not only Charlotte but in many fictions that have the ability as an option.
5 Explosion
Explosion is also a cookie-cutter name for an ability and gets right to the point without needing much explanation. Although Charlotte does not quite delve into this ability as much as the others, it can be akin to Collapse in a way for how destructive both abilities are in the end.
This ability allows the user to generate a high-level of heat and cause an explosion to occur. The only problem is that the user may be caught in it as well, and sustain grave injuries.
4 Collapse
Ayumi, Yu's younger sister, awakened her ability at a horrid time that resulted in a fatal mistake. That one scene showed how destructive her ability, Collapse, could be without much convincing.
As the name implies, Collapse allows the user to shatter objects near them or create cracks in any solid structure within their area if they wish. Although Ayumi did this unconsciously, as she did not know she had an ability.
3 Pyrokinesis
Misa Kurobane has the ability Pyrokinesis, as she can still use it despite her deceased state. While she is possessing Yusa, she is capable of creating flames from her hands and using it as a weapon at enemies.
It also seems as if she's quite used to the action, as she can easily create multiple flames and target them toward someone without much effort. In terms of strength and destructive power, Pyrokinesis is perhaps the most dangerousーto both the user and enemies, as the flames can burn anyone close enough.
2 Time Leap
The ability to leap through time may not be as psychically powerful as other abilities, but it is definitely the worstーin terms of usage and implications. Time Leap allows the user, in this case, Shunsuke Otosaka, to leap through time by collecting light within their eyes.
The more someone uses this ability, the worse their eyesight becomes until they go blind, ultimately resulting in them losing their ability. However, the result of changing time as well as the outcome is chilling to think of if usedーespecially when the outcome is shown in Charlotte.
1 Plunderer
Although Yu believed his ability to be able to possess someone's body and utilize their ability for five seconds, this is not correct. Plunderer does allow Yu to use someone else's abilityーhowever, he instead takes that person's ability for his own, effectively erasing that person's ability from them.
Despite Plunderer sounding like funs and games, it has one of the gravest flaws other than Time Leapーeach person he loots from, the more his memories fade due to the overload of information he gains from looting each ability. If Yu is able to wield every ability for himself, he would be a large threat.
