Charlize Theron To Join Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

Charlize Theron is in final talks to star in Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s mysterious science fiction movie that lead actor Michael Fassbender contends is “absolutely” connected to Alien.

If you’ll recall, Scott revealed in June that the planned prequel to his 1979 classic would be two films centering on the Space Jockey remains — the filmmaker says it was actually a suit with a being inside — discovered by John Hurt moments before he encountered a facehugger. But when 20th Century Fox officially announced Prometheus last month, it was described as “an original science fiction epic,” seemingly unrelated to the earlier film (Scott himself Alien “the jumping off point for this project”). Then, to further muddy the picture, came a report that the “the familiar HR Giger-style aliens” do appear in Prometheus.

So what are we to believe? According to Fassbender, who was cast last month opposite Noomi Rapace, there is a link to Alien.

“Oh, absolutely. There’s a definite connecting vein,” he tells MTV News. “You realize you’re part of something else, but it’s definitely in keeping with the old ones.”

It’s unknown what role Theron will play. Rapace was cast as scientist Elizabeth Shaw, and it’s assumed Fassbender is the android David. Prometheus is set for release on June 8, 2012.
