Mad Max actor Charlize Theron's newest project is a genre-bending biopic of legendary sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick, directed by Gravity's Alonso Cuarón.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jane will be based on accounts from Dick's daughter, Isa Hackett. Theron, Cuarón, and Hackett are set to produce, with Theron poised to star.

The project's official synopsis describes it as "a moving, suspenseful and darkly humorous story about a woman's unique relationship with her brilliant, but troubled twin, who also happens to be the celebrated novelist Philip K. Dick." The film will follow Jane as she "plunges deeper and deeper into a fascinating world" of her brother's creation as she works to save him from "predicaments both real and imagined." Jane is set to be produced by Electric Shepherd Productions, Denver and Delilah Productions, and Esperanto Filmoj. Producing alongside Hackett, Theron, and Cuarón are Gabriela Rodriguez, Beth Kono, AJ Dix, Sarah Scougal, and Kalen Egan.

Born in 1928, Dick wrote 44 novels and 121 short stories in his lifetime. His most famous works include the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which was adapted by Ridley Scott in 1982 as Blade Runner; We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, which was adapted into two feature films called Total Recall; The Minority Report, which later became a popular film starring Tom Cruise; and Adjustment Team, a short story that was adapted into a film called The Adjustment Bureau.

In contrast to Dick's vast works of imaginative fiction, Jane will be one of the first times audiences are offered a look at the author's own life. According to Hackett, the story is very personal and close to her heart. She explained that the story has been with her for her whole life, stating, "Jane, my father's twin sister who died a few weeks after birth, was at the center of his universe." Hackett claimed the film will "defy the conventions of a biopic and embrace the alternate reality Philip K. Dick so desperately desired -- one in which his beloved sister survived beyond six weeks of age."

In addition to Jane, Theron's upcoming projects include Fast X -- the 11th installment in the Fast and Furious franchise -- and Atomic Blonde 2 and The Old Guard 2, both of which she is also producing.

Jane currently does not yet have an official release date.
