Dynamite Entertainment will reunite the Angels for a brand new comic book series slated for release in 2018.
The comic book publisher announced today that it will bring Charlie's Angels back for an all new comic book adventure in 2018 thanks to a partnership with Sony Pictures Television. As of right now, a creative team has not been announced nor has an official launch date. Regarding the partnership between Dynamite and Sony, Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher for Dynamite Entertainment had this to say, "We could not be more excited to have the opportunity to work with the team at Sony Pictures Television, the premier name in television programming for decades." He continued, "The team at Dynamite all grew up watching the adventures of these strong female role-models, and we're proud to present the upcoming Charlie's Angels comic book series to an entirely new generation of fans!"
Charlie's Angels is based on the series developed by created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts. It kicked off its five season run in 1976 with industry legend Aaron Spelling serving as Executive Producer for the show. The series starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith. The series followed the crime-fighting adventures of three powerful women working in a Los Angeles private detective agency for the mysterious and unseen Charlie Townsend. The series became a cult favorite throughout the years, later going on to spawn a film franchise starring the likes of Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz, as well as a failed TV series reboot on ABC back in 2011.
The forthcoming comic book series is only the latest adaption to make waves regarding Charlie's Angels and Sony. The studio is currently developing a reboot of their hit film franchise. Elizabeth Banks, who made her directing debut with Pitch Perfect 2, is set to step behind the camera while Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o are currently being eyed to star in the reboot.
