While showcasing animated Marvel series at San Diego Comic-Con, the company announced Charlie Cox would reprise his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

The team revealed the first look at Cox in the show, hot off his surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While they revealed few details on his role in the series, it does appear he'll have a reoccurring part as he and Doctor Strange reportedly assist Peter Parker in his adventures. They did not reveal whether Benedict Cumberbatch would similarly voice Doctor Strange in the series.

Other characters revealed during the event include Nico Minoru from Runaways, Lonnie Lincoln, Amadeus Cho, Pearl Pangan, Jean Foucault and Harry Osborn. Taking over from Iron Man and Doctor Strange, Norman Osborn serves as Peter's mentor, eventually shaping him into Spider-Man. Confirmed villains for the series so far include the Unicorn, Chameleon, Scorpion, Speed Demon, Tarantula, the Rhino, Butane, Carmela Black and Otto Octavius. The team also teased another major character's appearance but did not provide any hints as to their identity. A new character called Bentley Wittman will appear in both seasons of the show, voiced by Paul F. Tompkins.

The panel also gave fans their first glimpse at Peter Parker's handmade suit as it appears in the series. It features the goggles and sweats look first seen in Tom Holland's Spider-Man debut in Captain American: Civil War, though somewhat more stylized and refined to suit the animation design. However, unlike Cox, Holland reportedly will not reprise his role in the series. This falls in line with Holland's absence from his character's appearance in Marvel's other major animated series, What If...?, where Hudson Thames voiced Parker.

MCU Spider-Man's Origins Revealed

Marvel announced Spider-Man: Freshman Year late in 2021, revealing it would depict Holland's Peter Parker in his two years as Spider-Man before meeting Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War. The series will also explore Peter's comic book origins, though which aspects of his past have yet to be confirmed. According to the presentation today, a second season, titled Spider-Man: Sophmore Year, will follow after Freshman Year airs sometime in 2024.

Head writer Jeff Trammell spoke about the upcoming series, expressing his excitement to work on the show and his love for the 90's animated Spider-Man series. "We are bringing all the heart and charm and fun of Peter Parker to this series, and we couldn't be more excited for you guys to see it," he said.
