Netflix's Man Without Fear is officially expected to join the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an interview with Sean O'Connell of CinemaBlend, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed that when Daredevil is brought back into the fold, Charlie Cox will be the one playing him. "If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil," Feige said. "Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen."
Cox starred as Matt Murdock/Daredevil throughout the acclaimed series Marvel's Daredevil, a Marvel Television production that aired on Netflix for three seasons from 2015 to 2018, ostensibly as part of the MCU -- taking place in New York City in the aftermath of the 2012 Marvel Studios film The Avengers. Cox was joined on Daredevil by Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, not to mention Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, among many others. Cox, Woll and Henson also starred in the Netflix miniseries Marvel's The Defenders, a crossover between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Netflix canceled its entire lineup of Marvel shows a number of years ago, with Daredevil in particular being axed in November of 2018 -- one month after the show dropped its third season. Reportedly, Netflix's contract with Marvel included a clause making it so the rights to all of the characters featured in said shows would remain with Netflix before defaulting back to Marvel after two years. In other words, Marvel and Disney would have regained the rights to Daredevil one year ago.
Ever since Netflix canceled Daredevil, many fans have expressed their desire to see the show revived in some form or fashion -- or at least see Cox reprise his role as the Man Without Fear in future Marvel projects. Of course, Cox's Daredevil has been the subject of many rumors over the past year or so. Some reports claim that Cox will appear in the fast-approaching MCU film Spider-Man: No Way Home, while others claim that he will have a role in upcoming Marvel Studios Disney+ original series like Echo and She-Hulk. Last month, it was even reported that Marvel Studios was, in fact, developing its very own Daredevil project. That being said, it's unclear if the alleged project would be a television series or a feature film.
It should also be noted that many fans are holding out hope that Daredevil alum D'Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in the MCU as well. This largely comes down to the fact that, in the comics, Fisk has close ties to the Marvel hero Echo, who is played by Alaqua Cox (no relation to Charlie) in Marvel's ongoing Disney+ series Hawkeye and is set to get her very own spinoff.
