Sylvester Stallone's iconic hero John Rambo has been a constant and long-running fixture in Hollywood for almost 40 years. Since first appearing in 1982's First Blood, audiences have watched Rambo transcend from a downtrodden and harassed Vietnam veteran to an explosive, over the top action star.

While Stallone has had a long and successful career in Hollywood, it is arguably for his portrayal as John Rambo that he is most recognized for. A tough, no-nonsense, militaristic powerhouse - there are some characters in Stallone's back catalogue who he would get on with more than others.

10 Wouldn't: Judge Dredd Represents Everything That Rambo Fights Against

Sylvester Stallone As Judge Dredd.

Rambo comes from one of Stallone's most highly regarded franchises, while 1995's Judge Dredd was universally panned by critics and fans alike. John Rambo would despise everything about the iconic lawman of Mega-City One.

Based on Rambo's run-in with the power tripping, despicable police force in First Blood alone, Rambo has a reason to distrust authority. Dredd is in all essence a fascist, uncaring, and uncompromising force for a system far beyond the realms of authoritarianism - the freedom-fighting Rambo would be far more likely to face-off against Dredd than call him an ally.

9 Would: Kit Latura Survives An Ordeal That Rambo Would Be Proud Of

Sylvester Stallone In Daylight.

Stallone's portrayal of ex-EMS worker Kit Latura in 1996's Daylight follows an everyman who must save everyone trapped in a collapsed tunnel. The tunnel falls around the heads of him and a small group of survivors. While Kit is by no means as rugged and well-trained as Rambo, it is easy to see how John would respect his efforts and will to survive under extreme conditions.

Not a million miles away from the survivalist that we see in First Blood, all audiences need to do is swap the forest for a collapsed tunnel and they will begin to see the similarities.

8 Wouldn't: Frank R. "The Enforcer" Nitti Is A Despicable Criminal

Sylvester Stallone In Capone.

Playing the real-life gangster in 1975's Capone - Stallone portrayed Al Capone's enforcer, and eventual successor Frank Nitti. A man responsible for innumerable crimes throughout his life, there were few people in the history of organized crime as deplorable and feared as Nitti.

As Rambo represents a force for good in the world, he would no doubt have a problem with a gangster such as Nitti - and respecting wouldn't be considered. If events in 2019's Rambo: Last Blood are anything to go by, audiences already know John's views on organized crime - and it's not good.

7 Would: Lincoln Hawk Is A Working Class Hero

Sylvester Stallone In Over The Top.

Only the '80s could have produced a film where the main protagonist wins back his estranged son by being good at arm wrestling. Featuring a determined, hard-working father and a plot that is so silly that it becomes spectacular, 1987's Over the Top is like Rocky with arm wrestling.

Rambo would respect the drive and never-give-up attitude of Hawk, who refuses to back down in the face of adversity. While it may be a different kind of survival than Rambo is used to - they are both strong, tough men who will stop at nothing to combat injustice in the world. The pair both use their brawn to ensure that they come out on top.

6 Wouldn't: Joe "Machine Gun" Viterbo Is A Nihilistic, Murdering Psychopath

Sylvester Stallone In Death Race 2000.

Similar in many ways to Stallone's character of Frank Nitti, Joe Viterbo is a Chicago gangster who participates in the deadly, murderous race featured in 1975's Death Race 2000. Already morally bankrupt by agreeing to take part in the race, Joe only makes things worse when he has no qualms about murdering innocents for the extra points they offer during the race.

Far from the morality of John Rambo, Viterbo and Rambo would likely despise each other equally. Joe Viterbo would certainly look down his nose at the hard-working, working-class veteran while he continues to cheat himself to victory.

5 Would: Barney Ross And Rambo Would Be A Match Made In Heaven

Sylvester Stallone In The Expendables.

No doubt reminding Rambo of all the greatest commanders he had, Barney Ross from The Expendables would be somebody Rambo could look up to. Their characters command nothing but mutual respect and adoration from one another.

As one of the few characters portrayed by Stallone over his career who could give Rambo a run for his money, the thought of Rambo and Ross ever working together is an incredibly tantalizing premise. With these two men on the battlefield, the enemy would have no chance whatsoever.

4 Wouldn't: Joe Bomowski Was Too Dependent On His Mom

Sylvester Stallone In Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot.

While John Rambo has worked together with many allies over the years, he works best alone. Knee-deep in the jungles, Rambo can utilize his almost-superhuman-stealth abilities to their maximum potential, and he certainly wouldn't ever take his mother along with him.

Rambo knows the dangers that he is subjecting himself and understands first-hand how deadly they can be to his allies. Joe from 1992's Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot is so dependent upon his mother and puts her in so much danger, which would probably embarrass Rambo. Joe's dependence would certainly make Rambo lose any respect for the cop - a profession that Rambo is already wary of.

3 Would: Marion "Cobra" Cobretti Is So Badass Enough Rambo Would Have To Respect Him

Sylvester Stallone In Cobra.

1986's Cobra is so incredibly explosive it makes parodies of '80s action films look understated. This action-packed masterpiece truly needs to be seen to be believed. Cobra is an eye-popping, edge-of-your-seat, and engaging watch. Portraying the renegade police officer Cobra, Stallone takes audiences on a one-man war against crime. Cobra takes no prisoners and leaves nobody standing.

While Rambo might not be the biggest fan of the police, he would have to respect Marion for his unflinching crusade to rid the world of injustice, and his skilled, almost unparalleled combat abilities.

2 Wouldn't: King Shark Is A Giant, Man-Eating, Talking Shark

Sylvester Stallone In The Suicide Squad.

Stallone's portrayal of the misunderstood King Shark in 2021's The Suicide Squad had audiences falling in love with the character. Though, it's doubtful that John Rambo would agree. The childish characteristics of King Shark would be more annoying than endearing to the action hero, and there is no way he would put up with the man-eating.

Rambo wouldn't be able to utilize stealth when encountering King Shark. Though the idea of Rambo rushing into battle alongside a giant shark makes for a premise almost too hilarious not to wish for.

1 Would: Rocky Balboa Has The Same Never-Give-Up Attitude As Rambo

Rocky in the American flag in Rocky IV

Alongside Rambo, Rocky is without a doubt the most iconic character of Stallone's career. The Perennial underdog, always training hard and fighting against all odds to come out on top - Rocky shares many similar traits with the guerrilla fighter.

It's understandable Rambo would be a fan of Rocky Balboa and his rags-to-riches story. Rocky is constantly pulled out of retirement for "one last fight" is very similar to Rambo's constant redeployment. It supports the idea that Rambo would count the Italian Stallion as a public figure who personifies everything that he fights for.
