While very little is known or confirmed regarding the Metal Gear Solid movie, there is an extensive history for the movie to draw from. The film is being helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts with Oscar Isaac in the lead role and Hideo Kojima is involved in the writing. Solid Snake is the iconic hero of the franchise, so it is a guarantee he will be the star. But the rest of the cast remains a mystery.
While there are over a dozen Metal Gear games to draw inspiration from, there are a handful of characters that feature prominently in several of the games, especially Metal Gear Solid. Should the movie stick to the story of the first game, the Shadow Moses incident with Metal Gear Rex, fans can expect to see familiar faces. However, there are openings for other characters to make cameos as well.
10 Liquid Snake Is The Ultimate Adversary
Liquid Snake is the genetically identical brother of Solid Snake. Both were cloned from the genes of the legendary soldier Big Boss, and Liquid serves as the main villain in Metal Gear Solid.
Liquid Snake also makes further appearances throughout the franchise as well. It would be hard to make a Metal Gear Solid movie without the main antagonist of the game itself, even if the story were to be very different. He is the Ying to Solid's Yang and must make an appearance.
9 The Movie Needs Revolver Ocelot And His Gun Tricks
The gun-spinning, mustache-toting Revolver Ocelot is a prominent figure in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. He is most known to fans for his revolver spinning tricks and has appeared as a villain in several of the games in the franchise.
The videos of the motion capture actor who did the gun tricks for Ocelot are mesmerizing, proving it would be amazing to see him in full live-action. Ocelot is just as important to the story as Liquid or Solid himself, and to see live-action gun twirls, hopefully not in CG, would be absolutely iconic.
8 Otacon Is Snake's BFF
Hal "Otacon" Emmerich is Solid Snake's "man in the chair" who provides intel through the codec communicator. Solid Snake meets Otacon on the Shadow Moses base in Metal Gear Solid, though at that time, Otacon is the chief engineer of Metal Gear Rex.
Otacon has a tragic backstory and is one of the more human and flawed characters in the franchise. Otacon joins Solid Snake throughout the MGS storyline, as they become both partners in their work as well as very good friends.
7 Cyborg Ninja/Grey Fox Is A Fearsome Foe
The title of The Cyborg Ninja has been adopted by several super soldiers within the history of Metal Gear Solid. Frank Jaeger, also known as Gray Fox was Big Boss' most loyal soldier and was supposed to have been killed at the hands of Solid Snake, but his body was recovered and fitted with a cybernetic exoskeleton.
Gray Fox is a mysterious and deadly character through the game's story, dispatching soldiers with gory precision. He plays a pivotal role towards the end of Metal Gear Solid and the fight scenes between him and Solid Snake are not something to be missed in the game, or on a big screen.
6 Roy Campbell Is More Than A Colonel
Roy Campbell is a former U.S. Army Colonel who originally commanded the special forces team FoxHound but later worked for the U.N. Security Council. Roy Campbell gives Solid Snake his orders through the Codec throughout many of the Metal Gear Solid games.
While he doesn't make too many on-screen appearances, Campbell is extremely important for his role as commanding officer. He is also important as the biological father of Meryl Silverburgh, a soldier involved in the Shadow Moses incident.
5 Meryl Silverburgh Should Join Up With Solid Snake
Meryl Silverburgh is the red-headed femme fatal that partnered up with Solid Snake on Shadow Moses. She was originally thought to be the niece of Roy Campbell, but it was later revealed that she is his biological daughter.
Silverburgh grew up hearing stories of Campbell and Solid Snake's adventures, so she has a connection that is worth exploring. She is also pivotal in the eventual battle with Metal Gear Rex as she assists in providing Solid Snake with a special key card that can deactivate the nuclear mech.
4 The FoxHound Team Offers A Diverse Challenge For Snake
While Liquid Snake was the main villain of Metal Gear Solid, he did not act alone. He was the leader of FoxHound, a team of rogue elite soldiers that included Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, Decoy Octopus and Revolver Ocelot. Each character is unique in their abilities from a giant minigun to a perfect sniper and each was a boss fight in the game.
The most interesting of these characters to see on the big screen would be Psycho Mantis. Players had to unplug and plug in their controllers during the boss fight in order to prevent Mantis' mind control. Fans would love to see how that mechanic could translate into a movie scene.
3 Raiden, but the MGS4 Version
Raiden made his debut in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty to heavy criticism from fans. However, he returned in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and became a beloved character who got his own spinoff game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
In Metal Gear Solid 4, Raiden is almost entirely a cyborg, giving him extraordinary abilities. He becomes Solid Snake's partner and friend in the missions throughout MGS4 and seeing this later version of him on-screen would be breathtaking.
2 Solidus Snake Could Set Up A Sequel
Solidus Snake is the third brother of the Les Enfants Terrible project to clone Big Boss, alongside Solid and Liquid Snake. While Solidus only appeared in Metal Gear Solid 2, he was the "perfect clone" of Big Boss and a menacing adversary for Solid Snake.
Solidus should play a part in the Metal Gear Solid movie's story as he is directly tied to Liquid and Solid. If he isn't a major character, a clever way to bring him in would be to tease his reveal in a post-credits scene, setting up a second movie.
1 Big Boss Could Be An Exciting Cameo
Big Boss was the original "Snake" and was the main character for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as well as the villain of the first two Metal Gear games. Big Boss was never shown in Metal Gear Solid, but was part of the conversation in explaining the origins of Liquid Snake and Solid Snake, as they are both clones of him.
The best way for Big Boss to appear would be in a flashback scene, explaining the Les Enfants Terrible project. A true nod to the series would be for Big Boss to be played by the voice actor himself, David Hayter.
