When it comes to different tabletop-RPGs, each one has their own unique settings and rules, just like they all have similarities. One of the biggest similarities between games is character creation, and the upcoming Marvel Multiverse Roleplaying Game takes a page from other notable TTRPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Cyberpunk Red, and Vampire: The Masquerade.

The Marvel Multiverse RPG offers players six different character archetypes (the game's version of classes) to choose from when creating heroes and villains to populate their adventures: Blaster, Bruiser, Genius, Polymath, Protector, and Striker. Archetype, coupled with the character's rank, determines ability score caps, modifiers, defense, damage, health, and focus. Like "levels" in other TTRPGs, a character's rank determines how powerful they are. The higher their rank, the more focused and able they are to control their abilities, including how much damage they dole out and withstand in combat situations.

Blasters Are the Marvel Multiverse RPG's Ranged Fighters

Ranged fighters play an important role in a multitude of TTRPGs, and the Marvel Multiverse RPG is no exception. Blasters like Hawkeye take their shots with precision from a distance, whether they are using arrows, bullets, or optic blasts, like Cyclops. Blasters are often able to put down enemies from a safe distance and, due to their raised caps (core abilities), the enemy may not even realize the danger they are in until it's too late.

The raised caps for Blasters are Agility and Vigilance. Agility determines a character's ability to aim precise shots from a distance or dodge incoming attacks, while Vigilance affects situational awareness, mindfulness, and discipline.

Bruisers Are the Marvel Multiverse RPG's Tanks

There is almost always that one character who dishes out as much damage as they take. In the Marvel Multiverse RPG, those characters are the Bruisers, like people like the Incredible Hulk, She-Hulk, and Juggernaut. Bruisers don't hesitate on the sidelines, trying to suss out a good plan like the Protectors. They're more likely to charge right into the center of the fray and start throwing punches and double-decker buses.

The raised caps for Bruisers are Might and Resilience. When looking for someone to smash an opening through a blockade or one punch an enemy 50 yards from the scene, Bruisers are the ones for the job. Resilience measures the Bruiser's toughness, stamina, pain tolerance, and tenacity, which means getting answers by torturing a Bruiser is unlikely.

Geniuses Are the Minds of the Marvel Multiverse RPG

Those who take on the role of Genius are the brains of the Multiverse, like Doctor Doom, Mister Fantastic, and Moon Girl. They put their epic mind power to good use solving problems others can barely wrap their head around, much less solve. Everything that happens around them is a potential learning experience, which may not always lead to the best outcome for the rest of the world.

The raised caps for Geniuses are Vigilance and Logic. Situational awareness, mindfulness, and discipline work hand in hand with their intelligence, especially when it comes to solving problems. Logic is a core component for the most intelligent people, who often put their smarts to good use solving difficult puzzles, creating useful inventions, and using complicated weaponry.

Polymaths Are the Jacks-of-All-Trades of the Marvel Multiverse RPG

Polymaths are capable of carrying out and achieving great things, but not often in the way one might expect. They might possess some traits of a Genius, but also have the brute force of a Bruiser, like Tony Stark/Iron Man. Or, they may be part Protector and part Bruiser, like Thor.

Polymaths aren't nearly as easy to define as the other archetypes, which makes it a great option for players who don't quite know how they want their hero to grow over the course of the game. They have the option to choose their own raised caps, which means they can mix and match attributes in the most unexpected ways.

Protectors Are the Strategists of the Marvel Multiverse RPG

Protectors tend to be excellent at coordinating teams and efforts to reach the best outcome. People like Professor X and Doctor Strange can strategize in ways that all but guarantee the pieces fall into place. They work from the sidelines, rather than endeavoring into the fray. However, this may make them harder for newcomers to role-play.

The raised caps for Protectors are Vigilance and Ego. Highly disciplined, mindful, and situationally aware, they are able to see things others might miss, making it much easier to strategize and coordinate the team. Ego is a core attribute for those who find themselves in positions as leaders. It allows them to intimidate and influence others, sometimes with psychic abilities, and other times with their magnetic personality. They can also withstand emotional attacks and mind control much more easily.

Strikers Are the Hard Hitters of the Marvel Multiverse RPG

Strikers hit fast and hard. They tend to be lone wolves, like Wolverine and Daredevil, preferring to keep to themselves because, on their own, no one else can get hurt. However, this also means they often wind up getting injured themselves. Because of this, they often work better as part of a team, as they can rely on their allies to watch their back while they get the job done.

The raised caps for Strikers are Might and Agility. Agility ensures their quickness and maneuverability, allowing them to swing in and strike fast before dodging out of harm's way. Might contributes to their hearty physical attacks, putting a decent amount of power behind those fast strikes.
