Epix dropped a creepy red band trailer for its horror series Chapelwaite.

The show, adapted from Stephen King's short story Jerusalem's Lot, first published in his 1978 collection Night Shift, stars Adrian Brody as Captain Charles Boone, a widower who relocates with his children to his ancestral home in the sleepy town of Preacher's Corners, Maine in the 1850s after his wife dies at sea. However, upon settling in at the dilapidated Chapelwaite manor, Charles finds himself haunted by horrifying visions and must confront his family's disturbing history in the hopes of ending the darkness that has plagued them for generations.

Also starring is Emily Hampshire, best known for playing the loveable disillusioned small-town motel clerk Stevie Budd on Schitt's Creek, as Rebecca Morgan, an ambitious young woman who left Preacher's Corners to attend Mount Holyoke College and returned home to write a story for the prestigious Atlantic Magazine. Struggling with writer's block, Rebecca becomes the governess of the infamous Chapelwaite manor in the hopes of finding inspiration, only to unravel a mystery that has afflicted her own family for years.

Written by by Peter and Jason Filardi, Chapelwaite received a 10-episode order in December 2019 before filming in July 2020. It's the latest series based on one of King's stories to make its way to the small screen following Lisey's Story, a miniseries adapted from King's 2006 novel of the same name that premiered on Apple TV+ in June. Upcoming projects inspired by King's writing include Paramount+'s Pet Sematary prequel film and Blumhouse's Firestarter reboot.

Chapelwaite is part of a busy year for Brody, who will also appear in Season 3 of HBO's drama series Succession and Wes Anderson's film The French Dispatch. Originally scheduled to open in 2020, Anderson's movie was pushed back to 2021 in response to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Joining Brody and Hampshire in Chapelwaite's recurring cast are Trina Corkum (Diggstown), Gord Rand (Orphan Black) and Allegra Fulton (Fargo), with Brody also executive producing. Bur Steers (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Rachel Leiterman (The Good Doctor), Michael Nankin (Van Helsing) and Jeff Renfroe (The Hardy Boys) are directing episodes of the series, which will premiere on Epix on Sunday, Aug. 22.
