It’s beginning to look like GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘s Channing Tatum is about to sign on to the movie version of the TV show that made Johnny Depp’s name – and, considering the talent already involved, that could be a very smart move.
Deadline reports that Tatum will soon begin negotiations for the lead in 21 Jump Street, alongside Jonah Hill, who came up with the idea of the movie with Scott Pilgrim screenwriter Michael Bacall. As if Bacall’s presence isn’t enough sign of a strong script, the movie will be directed by two men known for smart writing: Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs‘ Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The movie is set up at Sony, with shooting aimed for a Spring 2011 start.
