Fox seems determined to corner the market on imitators of Avatar, the James Cameron sci-fi extravaganza that brought in a record-breaking $2.7 billion for parent company News Corp.
First there was Terra Nova, the Steven Spielberg-produced dino drama set for a midseason debut on Fox Television. And now, Heat Vision reports, Fox 2000 is "the leader contender" to pick up Will Dunn's script for Ion, a sci-fi romance that has drawn comparisons to (you guessed it) Avatar.
G.I. Joe's Channing Tatum is attached to star, with Ridley and Tony Scott attached to produce.
The script, which initially made the rounds last year, centers on a man who travels to different Earths and dimensions to find his reincarnated lover. With the runaway success of Avatar, Ion became a hot commodity, with the Scott brothers stepping in to help develop the script.
According to Heat Vision, Ion is only Dunn's second script. His first, Children of the Gun, didn't sell.
